Visit to Bodrhyddan Hall 6th June 2019

After lunch at Faenol Fawr members went on to visit Bodrhyddan Hall and Gardens. Interesting artefacts including an Egyptian mummy  and family dining table at which Benjamin Franklin was entertained.  Too much to take in on one visit we’ll have to go again!

AGM 25th April 2019

The AGM was well attended and following  the acceptance of the Annual Report and Accounts,  Officers and Committee were elected.  This included  a warm welcome to new members to the Committee and Hon.Vice Presidents –  Medwyn and Gwenda Williams. Annual Lunch and Fiji. Friday 8th March 2019

An excellent lunch  at Plas Cadnant and talk from Mr Michael McGeever, formerly of the Colonial Administrative Service, on his time in Fiji in the 1960s.  Fascinating insight into life in the colonial Service and the demands of ‘exotic’ locations, including night time nibbling rats.

The Confucius Institute in Bangor

Dr David Joyner, former Director of the Institute gave a lively and detailed talk about the Silk Road and its importance to the development of China and its relations with the West.

Estates of the University of Wales, Bangor 24th January 2019

Afternoon lecture by Mr Derwyn Owen, Acting Director of Estates, was well attended. Society members were surprised to learn of the extent of the property owned by the University in Menai Bridge and Bangor.
